About Ocean HVAC Lab

I started in HVAC as an apprentice, working on installs and service calls, and eventually moved into a project management role on commercial projects.

This site is a collection of what I’m learning in the field – not just what the books say, but what actually happens on real jobs.

What This Site Covers

This is not just a service call log.

It’s built around three things:

1. Field Troubleshooting
Real service calls and jobsite issues.
What failed, how it was diagnosed, and what actually fixed it.

2. Core HVAC Concepts
Breaking down fundamentals like airflow, SEER vs AFUE, pressure relationships, and system behavior – in a way that actually connects to real-world situations.

3. Tools for the Field
Simple tools, references, and utilities designed to make day-to-day work easier — especially for technicians and PMs working in real conditions.

Why This Exists

Most HVAC information is either too basic or too theoretical.

In real life, problems don’t show up clean.
Install issues turn into performance problems.
Small mistakes compound into system failures.

This site is meant to bridge that gap.

Who This Is For

  • Technicians who want to get better at troubleshooting
  • People early in their HVAC career
  • Anyone trying to connect theory to real-world work

About Me

Still learning.
Still figuring things out in the field.

Writing things down is how I make sure I actually understand them.
